Web Design With Your Audience in Mind

It is important to consider web design with your audience in mind. Knowing your audience is a way to let you create a site designed specifically for them. Knowing their needs means that your site makes it easier to find the things that brought them there, and you do not risk turning them away. The factors to take into consideration are age, accessibility and content. If those elements are well-designed, your site is sure to do well.

Age and accessibility

If you want your site to target your intended audience, a flashy site heavy on high-tech may not go over so well with less technologically literate seniors. Likewise, a boring site may not appeal much to a younger audience. Make sure that your site is accessible to those who view it. Whether that means changing fonts, sizes and colors or using less bandwidth-heavy style elements, you want your audience to stay. If they can not see or hear the things you want them to, they are going to leave.

Content

Target content towards the correct group. Someone looking for recipes may not appreciate it if you sprinkle in flash games or news content. Consider what you want to show your intended audience when choosing the content you add. Regularly update content so that it is not out of date.

Once you know your target audience, it is easier to design your website. Write down the attributes of that intended audience, then create the website specifically for them.
